If you’re brand new to working with clay or would like to become more familiar with pottery techniques before enrolling in either our regular and ongoing 4-week or 12-week sessions, then we highly recommend taking this introductory class. You’ll learn the basics behind the buzzwords (i.e. coiling, handbuilding, throwing, glazing and firing) and will be guided step-by-step through all processes. Our teachers would love for you to create pieces that reflect your individuality, and are always happy to show you how to incorporate more intricate handbuilding techniques into your work.

INTRO TO THE POTTER’S WHEEL – One-time class: $55

Join us for an intro to the potter’s wheel! This is a great class for beginners, or anyone who just wants a refresher on the basics. In addition to step-by-step instruction to make your own wheel-thrown masterpieces, you will learn the basics behind all the ceramics buzzwords: trimming, coiling, handbuilding, throwing, glazing and firing and have a wonderful introduction to our studio. Learning to throw on the wheel is challenging, fun, and even relaxing! After the class, our studio staff will trim and glaze your artwork – it will be fired and ready for pick up within 3-4 weeks. Once you take your pieces home, they will be a permanent reminder of your evening with us and you new creative skills.

POTTERY BOOT CAMP 2018: $325

Announcing our new 6-week pottery boot camp! Pottery Boot Camp is an in-depth, structured introduction to basic wheel and hand-building techniques. You will learn a great deal while having fun and connecting with others. The comprehensive Pottery Boot Camp curriculum includes throwing and trimming pots on the wheel, hand-building with slabs, coils, and pinching, adding surface decoration and handles, and glazing and finishing your work. All materials, tools, and firing are included in the price of this class. This class is exempt from the studio’s cancellation policy and no make up classes are offered at this time.

6 Week Class Series (Classes are 2.5 hours 30 minutes to clean up) $325

PAPER CLAY WORKSHOP with Julia Saldaña: $65
Date: 6/2
Time: 5:30pm–7:30pm
Paper Clay included

Slab work slumping and cracking? Delicate greenware crumbling the moment you pick it up? Coil pots drying unevenly? Come learn the secrets of paper clay! In this workshop, we’ll go through the process and benefits of adding cellulose fiber to your clay body for added lightness, strength, and elasticity. Students will be given a demonstration on how to make their own paper clay and its practical uses, then have the opportunity to make their own projects on the table. Plan to stretch the limits of handbuilding as you know it!

This class is suitable for all students, but may be more fun for those who have some experience handbuilding, even if it’s just a little.

3-DAY SUMMER CAMP FOR KIDS!: $198

Do you have a little one that loves crafts and is ready for a summer of fun? Good Dirt LA’s summer camp for kids is the perfect place for for your child to get creative, make a mess, and make something to take home and show you! We will be creating planters, flower bud vases, fun bubble glazing techniques, and animal ice-cream bowls! And as always, we will let your kids explore their own creativity within each activity we plan.
Young campers will be guided step-by-step through all of the pottery-making processes such as coiling, pinching, building with slabs and sculpting, as well as what goes into making bowls, mugs, containers and sculptural art pieces.
As always the cost of the camp includes all materials, glazes and firings. Your child will bring home functional pieces as well as sculptural ones to enjoy! (They also make great presents for relatives during the holidays.)

This class is exempt from the studio’s cancellation policy and no make up classes are offered at this time. This intro to pottery class is especially for our younger students, age 6 – 16, who are taking pottery as part of a home school curriculum through iLead. You are welcome to sign up and pre-pay online, or sign up online and submit payment through iLead. Students will learn the basics behind the buzzwords (i.e. coiling, handbuilding, throwing, glazing and firing) and will be guided step-by-step through all processes. Our teachers would love for you to create pieces that reflect your individuality, and are always happy to show you how to incorporate more intricate handbuilding techniques into your work.
