Classes for Adults & Teens

We welcome all adults and teens (ages 12+) to join our in-studio classes to learn wheel throwing and hand building. Our cozy atmosphere and friendly instructors will encourage you to relax, take your mind off the busyness of everyday life, and have fun creating with your hands. There’s no pressure to make the perfect pot—we want you to enjoy the experience and true magic of working with clay. Good Dirt LA is all about artistic self-discovery and staying present with the process!

All class fees include instruction, clay, glaze, firing, and use of studio tools. Just wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting dirty, trim your nails and tie up long hair, and bring your own hand towel (and optional apron). We will take care of the rest!

Intro to Wheel Throwing
$85 per person for a single session
Individual Session Time: 2 hours
Class Size: maximum 5 ppl
Open to ages 12+

Join us for an introduction to throwing on the potter’s wheel! All levels welcome, no experience necessary. This is a great class for beginners or anyone who just wants a refresher on the basics. In addition to step-by-step instruction to make your own wheel-thrown masterpieces, you will have a wonderful introduction to our studio. Learning to throw on the wheel is challenging, fun, and even relaxing! After the class, our studio staff will trim and glaze your artwork. Pieces will be fired and ready for pick up within 3–4 weeks. Once you take your pieces home, they will be a permanent reminder of the time you set aside to be one with yourself and your creativity.

Intro to Hand Building
$85 per person for a single session
Individual Session Time: 2 hours
Class Size: maximum 5 ppl
Open to ages 12+

Although people often think of wheel-throwing when they think of pottery, hand building is actually the oldest form of making pottery as it involves only the hands and simple tools. It is a truly grounding and inspiring way to explore clay! In our beginner-friendly class, you will create a project using basic hand building techniques, such as pinching, coiling and/or using slabs. This class is perfect for those without any previous experience with clay or those with experience throwing on the wheel who want to try something new. After the class, our staff will finish your work for you in the glaze of your choice and contact you as soon as they are ready to be picked up 3–4 weeks later. If you are an actively enrolled student, you will also have the option to finish and glaze your work yourself.

Students are given their own personal shelves within the studio for the duration of their course to store their in-process work and retrieve finished pieces. All materials, tools and firing are included in the course fee.
